Soul of a Man probably has the greatest performance of "Just One Smile"
that I have ever heard... It is a pristine recording.
Since this is a clone list, I will mention that on this CD Al plays a
XB3... Sounds kind of muddy, but the playing is great...
Also, there was a video made of this concert, but according to Al (in an
email he sent to me), he could not release it because Steve Katz was
being an asshole and would not consent to a release. Apparently, Steve
plays on the concert and most of his playing is therefore deleted on the
CD. However, it is impossible to delete his image on the video. Or maybe
Industrial Light and Magic can replace his head with someone like, Betty
Boop... I will suggest that to Al. Now that would be a DVD that I would
purchase.
Al almost went blind last year, but is still playing. Go an purchase his
autobiography, "BackStage Passes and Backstabbing Bastards". Excellent
reading....

I'm a big fan too.
THE Al Kooper CD to get is his "Soul of a Man", recorded live about
10 years ago, with songs from the Blues Project, BS&T (his BS&T), and
some other great tunes. Al's Hammond playing has never been
extraordinary, but like they say, he never hits a wrong note.
Al's covered a lot of ground in his career, and most of it's here,
except for the Skynard part.
BTW, he's still doing dates, despite his health. He's got his own
web site, very informative.
