Hi all, I hope I'm not extending this (beat a dead horse), but for a few years I have thought of using a triac to control the 120vac, and as someone stated earlier, use a 555 timer to control the gate. Then I believe a pot could control the 555 timer. It's been some time since I've played with projects like this but I think it would be like switching the half moon on and off with more control.
