you're not dumb..you're just being cautious. paranoia is prerequisite for
genius ...there's a school of thought that goes... if it ain't broke..don't fix
it.... be that as it may murphy's law has a way of acting up.. always better to
be safe than sorry. and i still maintain that using 1/4 inch phone jacks to
carry 120 volts is playing with fire, literally.... to play the devil's
advocate if these things worked with non sanctioned electrical wiring principles,
sometimes one can get away without any problems happening. its like in asia, if
you want to test a 220 light bulb before you buy it which is SOP, they'll reach
behind the counter and grab the dangling CLOSE TO EACHOTHER "chopstick"
electrodes they've fashioned out of hard copper wire wrapped in electrical tape to
a zip cord, connected to a 220 outlet and touch the business end of the bulb
as if they were testing 9 volts dc and then let the electrodes drop back
sloughed over the counter which is usually made of aluminum. you would think that
that's an accident waiting to happen. but the major dept. stores operate that
way, even the True Value and Ace Hardware franchises in Asia.
