I'm sure Hammond wanted it to become the organ of choice at the
time, making a better machine than Conn and Everett and the other
electronic and electrostatic machines out there. He was a
commercially savvy engineer who wanted to make a successful product,
and what he came up with must have taken a lot of thinking to get it
so right in the first version. >>
What i meant was, that the B3 out of all the organs on the planet would be so
favored by so many genres of music. Hammond made other models and none fared
as well as the B3 for serious production and recording of music. They made
models with tabs and flip switches. Even the X 77 series with it's spacy looks
didn't overshadow the B3. The Porta B ate it also. the BC which looks identical
to the B3 didn't have percussion and although it had a great sounding chorus
with its own drawbar, it was not the organ of choice. Sort of like Fender
making the Jaguar his top of the line guitar, never dreaming his lesser models, the
Stratocaster and Telecaster would eclipse it. Same for Hammond.... not a bad
quantum leap for being a clock maker eh?
