For the most part, I have to agree with you, the CX3 has an organ feel
and layout. Its MIDI controller features also adapt well. Where I
don't quite agree is that when controlling a laptop, only the second
(or lower?) contact triggers the note. In effect, its similar to the
CX3's "deep" trigger, regardless if you have selected "shallow" on its
global settings. Overall, IMHO its a small price to pay to take the
CX3's basic layout and feel, and upgrade the sound. While I also
agree that the B4's sound is an overall upgrade to the CX3's internal
sound, I found the EVB3 to surpass even the B4 for authenticity and
capturing a B3's soul, and have been controlling it with my CX3. Yes,
its an expensive controller, but if you look at it as upgrading the
sound of your harware clone for less than the cost of a Speakeasy, its
a no-brainer. That said, if I were starting from scratch today, I
wouldn't pay for a CX3 as a controller/secondary organ sound source.
A used XK2 comes to mind, or maybe a VK7. That would still be more
than a "silver" controller, put likely justified in the feel and
layout that it brings to the table.
