Subject:Mac Powerbook based NI B4 . . .Latency problems

I'm new to the group, and I'm looking for a reliable and relatively
inexpensive B3 sound, so I've been testing the demo version of Native
Instruments B4. I run a Macintosh 1Ghz G4 TiBook, and NI only has a demo
of their OS 9.x version. I'm using an M-Audio Midisport 2x2 USB-MIDI
interface and a Korg SG-1D as a MIDI controller keyboard. But I'm having
serious latency problems. Even with the caches set for minimum latency,
it's virtually unplayable live. I'd vastly prefer to run the OS X native
version, but I don't want to buy it if it's as bad as the OS 9 version.

Anyone have any NI B4 experience with a Mac? Is the OS X version any better
than the OS 9 version? The extreme latency on the OS9 demo version makes it
useless to me. (Am I doing anything wrong?)

Help?
