Subject:Re: VCOMBO.....

Well, my problem is, our gear stays locked up in a truck when we get picked up, and when we get to the gig, we're setting up, and I don't really have time to tweak too much. I've been keeping a notebook with me during the gigs so that things that really annoy me, I write em down, and try to spend either break time (not a good idea, cuz you gotta mingle) or before the next show. So far, some of the leslies that were preprogrammed into some of the factory patches I've used and doctored have been ok, but a couple are REALLY just wrong. I've been trying to tweak those, but as you know, doing it DURING a gig or during a song isn't the easiest, but I've been doing it where possible.

As for the pianos....I have a number of patches set up, some using just the onboard, and a couple using a layer with the Stage Grand sound, or Premier Grand from the piano card. To be honest....they sound good an octave above middle C, but anything lower than that and I'm having trouble being satisfied with it.

The VCombo fits this use, but I'm looking forward to getting home, and pulling my Hammond and Leslie out for the first few shows. I dont think I'd be happy with one board to do everything....at least not yet: There's nothing available that would satisfy my organ needs and my piano needs. But if Nord could come up with a Piano that is as gratifying as their Electro, I'll be the first kid on the block with one, guaranteed.

Glad to hear your V-Combo is holding up. You're right, I had to go through all my organ patches and reduce the percussion volume for both soft and normal but, having done so I can now use either as I feel the need.

I'd love to hear how you are finding the Leslie Sim and what tweeks you are finding you are making to get the best from it?

Slightly off topic but how are you finding the piano sounds live, are you layering the on-board piano's with the SRX07 piano's?

Subject: [CWSG] VCOMBO.....

Well, one week into this tour and the Vcombo is holding up well. It still has its quirks, and the difference in tone between in it and the Electro has me rethinking my drawbar use BIG TIME. I think that's the biggest disparity between the clones: YOu get used to certain registrations on the instrument you've been using, but they don't translate quite the same on a new instrument. I know when I got my Electro, it changed the way I thought about the 5 3/4 drawbar, and now the VCombo has me rethinking the top two drawbars. It also has me rethinking percussion use as well (I love using percussion, and the characteristics of the VCombo's percussion is a lot different than the Electro's and my Hammonds...I have to use SOFT all the time or the initial THONK will rip your head off.

Anyway.....Greetings from Greece (for today)....so far, it's been Naples, Rome, Sevilla, Spain....tomorrow, Souda Bay, Greece.

Later!!!!!!!!!!
