Subject:Re: V combo case...

Bruce is dead on concerning the cost of producing the molds for the plastic cases, but the price is actually in six figures, according to the guys at RnR.

As for SKB, their 76 case does NOT fit the Vcombo.

Gator makes a 76-key case that fits the V-Combo. Contact me offline if you're interested.

I know SKB makes a 76-key case; I don't know if it fits the V-Combo. Generally, the Gator cases are a little bigger, and sometimes you need the extra inch or two. I know for example, that Gator's 61-key fits the Korg CX-3, while SKB's doesn't.

To my knowledge, no one makes a "V Combo case" in a light, polyethylene style. The original ATA flight cases (Anvil, Calzone, Modern, etc.) can be made to fit a particular product because they're made to order. Each case is cut to size when it's being built. They cost a good bit more, though, and they tend to be heavier.

The SKB/Gator cases are moulded cases, and so require expensive tooling to make (at least tens of thousands of US dollars, maybe more). It's unrealistic to ask a manufacturer to spend that kind of up-front money on a custom design for every keyboard model produced -- although a few manufacturers, like Yamaha, have contracted with a case maker to build a custom poly case for a particular model or family line. It's easier to make a "standard" case for violins, guitars, saxes, etc. because the basic form-factor doesn't change much from model to model. Keyboards are all over the map.
