Subject:RE: Question about Leslie 46W

You don't want to replace the caps with other wax caps. In fact they don't even make them anymore. MOUSER...www.mouser.com....(800) 346-6873 has polyester. You should also replace the electrolytics in the can. The new ones don't have to be in the can. Regarding tube socket cleaning. Spray in the socket with Caig deoxit. If not available anyy good Radio Shack contact cleaner. Push tube in and out for several times.

Subject: RE: [CWSG] Question about Leslie 46W
$100 for a 46W is a good price. But you should know the limitations.
First, they were build really well.. meaning HEAVY!!! Much heavier than
a 145. Also, they are kind of short on power. Since it sounds like you
need your amp rebuilt, if it was me I would consider replacing the amp
with a good 147 amp, giving you additional power and control. You will
also need a two speed conversion kit for the chorale speed... Also,
don't forget an upgraded woofer and driver...

I don't know if this qualifies as a clonewheel question, but here goes:
I
finally picked up a Leslie, a 46W, to use with my new Electro (there, I
got
the clonewheel tie-in). In looking at the underside of the tube amp,
the
capacitors (those waxy cylinder thingies) have turned gooey and probably
need to be replaced. Can anyone make a suggestion on where to get
these?
Also, I think the tube sockets will probably need to be cleaned, so any
suggestions on how to do that would be appreciated.

Just for those who like to read about it - this cabinet is in great
condition with all of the original parts. Grand total to buy? $100.
He
he...while I realize this cabinet is not as lusted after as the 122 or
147,
I am very proud to have it (those cabinets aren't easy to find around
here,
or anywhere I guess). Can't wait to get my 147 preamp up and running to
hear my Electro through it.

Thanks in advance for any answers!

Josh
