Subject:Overdrive on the VK7 with a leslie

Someone was asking about using overdrive on the VK7 while using a real
leslie. I will agree....you do need to have it on "bypass" with a leslie. Amp 1 and
Amp 2 settings will not do it if you want to use overdrive function with
a leslie.
The setting I use with my leslie for overdrive
is the "Combo" setting. For some reason they dropped the bass level (darn) on
the Combo setting though. In order to compensate for that here is what I do:

Bass : + 5

Middle : 0

Treble -3

Sub
Keyboard Drawbars 808000000
Main
Drawbars 666000000
Percussion
Level 2

Organ Level 127

Putting a volume pot in a real Hammond in place of the resistor in the
percussion circuit and setting the upper drawbars to approx. 666000000 is one
trick to getting a real Hammond to have strong bass in relation to the upper
draw bars. It works similarly for me with this setting on the VK7 in "Combo"
position as well.
When overdrive is on you get much more gain out of the VK7. I also like
the way the chorus vibrato sounds with overdrive. For some reason it starts to
sound more real with some grunge in there. And it also adds to the fun factor.
So this is what worked for me . I use either an Leslie 860 (stock) or a
modified Leslie 900 ( different power amp ) with a Heathkit tube electronic
crossover as its "preamp".
