Subject:NE and the M3 A/B (in depth)
Well, I have to start off by taking back all the comments I have made
in the past about the NE's Organ section... Originally, I bought the
Electro only for the EP section as I currently gig with an XK-2 for
organ.
Last night after the rest of the band left practice, I decided to
A/B the Electro with my M3 that I use only for rehersal (like I'm
going to lug that thing around... riiight) Anyway, it started out
rough, I had the NE plugged into the solid state section of the KBR-
3D, after about two seconds I realized that I needed to plug the
electro into the same input as the M3 (the 3D has 2 organ inputs).
I then stopped the rotor so it was pointing right at me. I
started by A/Bing 1 drawbar at a time.. I still had the EQ and
Overdrive on on the NE, so I shut that off.. that alone made a huge
difference (no wonder I thought it sounded a bit muddy before!)
I pulled out each drawbar/button on both instruments and did the
a/b... wow! it was spot on!! The ONE thing I realized, and I HIGHLY
RECOMMEND that you all try this, is that it was the NE was only too
shrill when I pulled each drawbutton all the way out (except the 1st
one). Everyone try the setting 877700000 instead of 888800000, etc.
And if using the 1' button, back it to 6.
Next, I tried the percussion. My M3 has really biting
percussion so the NE lost that round. However, it was still very,
VERY close! I noticed that the M3's perc was much more pronounced
below split point(split NOT engaged), the NE's kind-of dies out.
But, then again, how much of your solo is down there anyway...
Unfortunatley, my chorus/vibrato on the M3 is on the fritz so I
didn't get to try that. But after all the tweaking, the NE sounded
GREAT with C3 on.
So, all in all, percussion and the oh-so-obvious lack of 9 point
key contacts aside, the Electro has earned renewed level of respect
from this musician. Clavia, if you're listening, my OS3 picks for
the organ section would be controlable percussion, movable split
point, and... a drawbar module...ahem.
Next mission, the M3/XK-2 A/B...
happy tweaking,
Sean B
