When chopped, the a100 amp and reverb amp are left off. Some people claim that the a100 chorus-vibrato sounds different, but if that is even true, it is not a noticeable thing, IMHO. The a100 costs about 25% of a b3. The rest of the innards are identical!

A fabulous musician like Medeski could make anything sound great. These type of guys are usually so busy touring and recording that they don't have as much time to get into new equipment as the rest of us (who prefer to drool over new equipment ads than practice). Still...
I'd be willing to bet most of us mortal players would greatly prefer the new bx3 over the old.
