Subject:Mixer help and question
I need some ideas on this new arrangement.
I use the B4 which is currently run through a Mackie 1402 and into
the SRM450. I also use a JV1010 for piano sounds which goes into the
Mackie as well. I use the Mackie XLR out which connects to the 450
cabinet. This is what I use for stage monitoring purposes. I then
take the 1/4 balanced line aux out #1 and send this to the FOH so
they can control the house mix separately from the stage mix. I use
the 1/4 balanced line aux #2 for the piano.
This way I get separate channels on-stage for the organ and piano and
the foh guy gets the same thing but not the same mix I'm using.
Here's the stupid part. I have a road case that is not quite 12"
wide which houses my sound modules, mini thru boxes and USB box as
well as my 10 input power strip. The front of this case comes off
and I set my laptop on top of it so everything is the right height
and is semi-permanent in that I just take the front off, plug in a
few cables and I'm rolling.
I would REALLY like to mount a little mixer inside this box but the
1402 which I like a lot is too big to fit inside. The Behringer
MX802 is ther right size and has to aux mixes (which I have to have)
but they are not trs balanced outs. I can actually use one of my trs
to xlr patch cables out of the Behringer but again, they are not
balanced lines. The next step up is the UB1204 pro which is quite a
bit more money. About 175.00 at GC. The MX 802 was 65.00.
So the question is what to use as a mixer since I really only would
need 4 X2 or 3X2 mixes and both outputs should be balanced.
Is there a software mixer that could reside on my laptop and serve a
sa virtual mixer so I could eliminate useing a hardware mixer
altogether? Or maybe some other hardware mixer that is less than 12"
wide and maybe 10" deep so it could occupy space in my road case.
I would imagine that a software mixer would require some type of
hardware interface so that sound could go in and out and bve directed
accordingly.
I'm looking for ideas so I can put this mixer business to rest once
and for all. I currently use the Echo Indigo which has two 1/8 lines
out. I would assume that maybe I could use this as the hardware
interface?
Thanks in advance for your suggestions.
Chuck
