Subject:RE: gearing up to upgrade gear
Hello Damon-
I too, have a VK7 and share some of Erics' thoughts. I have an electro and it definately is a better sounding organ-especially on the top end and the leslie sim. I never found myself truly inspired to "play" with the VK7. The Electro IS a great piece, however,If I may share an effective way to get the tone your looking for-Keep the VK7 as a controller-cause your gonna take a bath on it-p/u a used V5 get a REAL Leslie-like a 145-and a speakeasy preamp-I swear the leslie makes ALL the difference-coupled with a V5 and speakeasy-you'll have a SMOKIN'
organ rig-the VK7 feels really good-and then p/u a piano module as Eric said and you'll be set.
The danger with this list is we can so easily spin out of control with G.A.S.(Gear Acquisition Syndrom) and obsessing on the search for TONE we lose sight of making music-myself included. Some of this IS justified because I was fighting tone instead of being able to just "play". For the better part of 20 years I fought this, and it wasn't until I got the V5 and a Leslie(145) that the chains finally came off. I no longer "NEEDED" - I was finally at a point where my soul went AHHHHHH. The Electro is a WONDERFUL board, make no mistake-but if your trying to get the most for your money.....You could get a V5 and a leslie for just a bit more than an Electro-granted you'll still need piano but theres modules out there that will do the job
depending how psyco you are:)
Cheers-
Bill
