Subject:Re: Switching Leslies from Fast (Tremolo) to Stop and back
All,
The use of a dynamic brake on the Stop setting was something that Leslie recommended. From a purist's point of view -- i.e., pipe organ replacement -- it makes sense: Pipe organs often have tremulants, but they don't wind up and down. However, I for one, have always liked the fact that the drum (without the brake) takes 15-20 sec. to slow down and stop. I think it adds to the overall alive feel of the organ, and it's one of the reasons that I modified my Leslie for 3-speed operation. I think other players must have felt the same way, because if you listen to recordings from the '50s and '60s, you'll hear a lot of deceleration-challenged Leslie speakers.
Regards,
-BW
