Subject:RE: CX3 V2 Rotary Stop
I have a B3 with a 122 with a brake. There are two Leslie switches, a
fast/choral and a three position with the center position being the
brake. There are two Leslie cables going to the Leslie from the organ,
one for the speed the other for the brake. Seems to work pretty good.

Subject: Re: [CWSG] CX3 V2 Rotary Stop
All,
The functions of the rotary (Leslie) controls changed from V1 to V2.
In V1, it acts like a typical 9-pin or 11-pin Leslie; i.e., Stop is the
dominant control, superseding Tremolo (fast) and Chorale (slow) speeds.
In addition, the V1 method added an interesting twist -- I believe that
the VK-7 works the same way -- where pressing the Fast switch (in either
direction) cancels the brake. This method is unlike any other Leslie
control that I've seen: half-moon, combo preamp, or aftermarket.
In V2, it acts exactly like a 122/147 does, warts and all. If you want
to stop a 122/147 (old style, not the 122XB), you must remove the
shorting plug that is placed in a socket called "Brake Adapter" or
something similar. If you want to stop all the time, you need to remove
the shorting wire and connect a switch or relay to the plug. In any
case, Tremolo speed is always Tremolo, and Chorale is Chorale only if
the brake connection is closed. Think of it as a sort of "time machine"
that turns a 122 into a 22H (or a 147 into a 47).
Personally, I've always disliked the 9-pin method, from the first time I
saw it in the '60s. It was done because it was easier to implement
using '60s technology, but it requires using a different switch/pedal
for 2-speed and 1-speed operations. For 2-speed, you turn the
Stop/Brake switch to "on" (running) and use the Tremolo switch to select
Chorale or Tremolo; for 1-speed, you turn the Tremolo switch "on"
(Tremolo) and use the Stop switch to change from Tremolo to off. I'd
rather have one switch that changes from Tremolo to the "other" speed,
and use a different method to select the era of my Leslie. It feels
more natural to me.
Regards,
-BW
