I agree whole heartedly. Play those wrong notes in the tough keys until
they are right. (There are no wrong notes, only the notes that come after
-- MD paraphrasition).
I learned a Ron Levy tune in what I thought was Db, because the original
recording wasn't on perfect pitch. Took me weeks, no months to learn the
licks in Db ... but now I can play in that key. Then one day I met Ron and
asked him about that tune ... he told me it was in C! Go figure.

I used to transpose a lot, especially when I was young and playing in a lot
of blues bands. I just hadn't bothered to practice the harder keys. I was
deadly in G and C, pretty good in F, so that's where I played everything.
Eventually it really started to bug me that the color that was coming out
didn't match what my hands were doing, where my hands were, and my ears,
brain and hands started to revolt. I can't remember the last time I
transposed, and there still are keys that are really hard for me, regardless
of the style of music I'm playing. As a result, I've dropped some major
turds on the stage, but they're in the past (more are surely in my future).
It's just stuff that needs to be worked on. No one listens to keyboard
solo's anyway, so why worry. We can't bend strings, so people don't know
how to take it. (Anyone else get that feeling?) Just remember-- that which
does not kill you, makes you stronger, and after a little while, you'll
probably find playing in Eb generally easier than E.
