Subject:Opportunity in Detroit?

Yesterday I wandered into the suburban Detroit Mars Music location,
and started playing a CX-3. A salesman came up and said the store
was going to be closed soon -- perhaps this week-- and deals were to
be had. Make an offer, he advised.

Well, I wasn't really in the market for a new organ. After not
playing organ for nearly 30 years, I bought a used vintage CX-3
earlier this year. I've really enjoyed getting back into music.
Except for the built-in Leslie simulator that made me feel vaguely
seasick when it was on "fast," the vintage model was a good match
for my limited needs and talents.

But I was curious. I figured I'd make him an offer so low that he
would immediately refuse, and I'd just enjoy playing that awesome
keyboard a little longer before I went home. "I'll buy it for
$1,199," I said.

What followed was 20 minutes of hand-wringing and head-shaking by
the salesman. But after he determined that I really wasn't going to
buy at any other price, he huddled with the manager, who okayed the
deal. My lucky day! I've dreamed of owning an organ that sounds
like this since I was about 14 years old!

No more CX-3s in the store (located in Southfield, MI), but the
store otherwise appeared to be fully stocked. If you live anywhere
in the area, you might want to check it out -- soon.

(The usual commercial disclaimers: I have no relationship with
Mars, except as a customer... And if anyone wants to buy a
perfectly functioning vintage CX-3, contact me offline...)
