Subject:Re: Leslie Question
Hi Chris,
The 3-pin XLR connector is rated at pretty high current -- I believe it's 15A per pin -- and so can handle the needs of the motors. I don't think I would use mic cable to connect them together (except, like Ken, in a pinch), but a nice piece of rubberized 18/3 should work OK.
A bigger issue is to make sure that some idiot doesn't plug a microphone in there! One possibility would be to use an 4- or 5-pin XLR connector. Their pins are rated at 10A (XLR-4) and 7.5A (XLR-5); the XLR-5 would be OK for the top motors, which don't work as hard. The downside, of course, is that XLR-3 connectors/cables are available everywhere, while the higher pin counts might have to be specially ordered.
Regards,
-BW
