I have to agree wholeheartedly. It took a long time
for me to build up the rig I own, and I strived to
make it sound as good as possible within budgetary
restraints. The old adage "most people won't know the
difference" is a little misleading: It should read
"most people DON'T know the difference, but once they
hear it, they DO know it." In the end,if you're
working in a group situation where everything is
pumped through a PA, the cumulative effect of your
efforts will either be enhanced or deterred, depending
on the craftsmanship of the engineer at the board.
However...there is no denying that a sound that turns
you on will positively affect your playing, and the
same is true for a sound that does NOT turn you on.
So, if you like what you're hearing, that's all that
matters. Obviously, if you didn't, you wouldn't be
playing it. My problem is, how do I get it to sound
kick ass without breaking my back and occupying too
much of the stage? I've got my ideal Monster Rig and
use it often; I have my "realistic" rig that still
sounds great and yet isn't too obnoxious; the struggle
I deal with is shrinking the Monster Rig size into a
smaller than "realistic" size while still retaining
the Monster Tone. I've accomplished that with
everything except the Hammond. That has been an
ongoing effort (years and years). In the end, I still
have not been able to leave the leslie at home, at
least not voluntarily!!! Hopefully the
Motion3/lo/speakeasy rig will allow me to try. But if
not, I still have The Bulldog.
