Subject:Amp made all the difference
At home I have an A-105 I play through a Pro-3T/LowPro, and also a CX-3 (v1.x
software) that I usually play through an inexpensive 10W Radio Shack
amplifier that weighs about five lbs. The CX-3/amp sounds pretty decent, but
I can't get a lot of "oomph" out of it, or a very strong bass.
I have my first "gig", so to speak, this weekend - our annual church retreat,
in a good-sized hall and retreat center not far from the church. I took the
CX-3 to rehearsal at the church on Tuesday, and used an old Peavey 35W guitar
amp (probably 20 lbs) we had at the church. Bad move. I cranked down all the
effects and played with the amp gain controls, but it seemed to distort WAY
too easily. My 10W RS amp sounds better. I guess the amp needs some work.
What to do, what to do. This morning before work, I decided to try the CX-3
through the M-S equipment, since I'd only done that once before, when I first
got the CX-3.
Needless to say, the M-S rig is now going to the retreat. In this case, the
amp made all the difference. So what if the Low-Pro weighs more than the CX-3
? I chose M-S over a 122 because I can move it, period...
Sunday morning at church we're singing one of the songs from the retreat
("Forever" by Chris Tomlin, from the Michael W Smith "Worship" CD) - and my
M-S rig will be attached to the A-100 at the church (-: (we have no Leslie -
yet).
