I have only ever seen the Yamaha unit on the web, although I must say it
looks impressive! I was under the impression that the retail was around $500
US, whereas the retail for the Edirol unit is $219 US or so. The Yamaha box
apparently has quite a few extra features not found on the Edirol UA-20,
including XLR inputs if I'm not mistaken. I would explain to the sales clerk
what you were trying to do and tell them you want to take it for a spin. Go
ahead and buy it, and if the latency is as low as it should be I personally
would keep it. Let us all know how it turns out with this box, as it appears
to be much more of a "professional musician's accessory" than the Edirol box
was intended to be. (Keep in mind Edirol has been doing USB audio capture
for about 4 or 5 years, but the operative word is *capture*. Apparently this
has always been their focus, as opposed to an all around USB audio mixing
interface-MIDI-USB-ASIO-hotrod...hehe)

Hi all, I've been following this discussion with interest and note
the comments re the new Edirol usb box. I went into my local mucis
store to check one out and they offered me a yamaha uw500 at the same
price. It has ASIO drivers, audio in/out midi in/out do you think it
compares to the Edirol or should I snap up a bargin (the yamaha
should sell at about £250 and I can have it for £140)
