Others have announced their gigs on the list, so it's not taboo. I think many of the members would like to see others using their rigs live when they get a chance.

However, I've got a better idea for distribution: I just created a folder in the Files area on the Yahoo site called Gigs. Inside that folder are several US metro areas -- I know I didn't get everybody's area, feel free to add your own -- where members can leave files announcing their playing dates and places. Please make the files either ASCII text (.TXT) or HTML (.HTM) so that all the members can read them. (Things like MS Word documents, and even Adobe Acrobat, are somewhat restrictive.) Also, because this is a non-commercial group, both by our own charter and Yahoo's rules, we'll have to limit the information to date, place, time, band name, and list member's name; no set lists, sales hype, etc. (We're probably pushing the line a little on Yahoo's rules, but since the Files section is limited to members-only access, it's not advertising, per se.) If you want to add a link to your band's site, that's OK.

Also, before creating a new area, take a look at the existing ones and see if your location falls within 50-100 miles of an existing one. It's not a hard and fast rule, but if we end up with 100+ folders in there, it will be hard to find ANYTHING, because two different players in the same area (20-30 miles apart) may pick different folders to list in. For example, if I'm playing in say, Worcester, MA -- 35-40 miles outside of Boston -- I'll use the Boston area folder, rather than creating a "central MA" or "Worcester" folder, since someone from TX or VA will likely fail to appreciate any distinction.

Oh, and while the current folders are US-only, this section is open to our list members in Canada, UK, Germany, etc., too! (I just didn't feel qualified to create the metro folders for your home base.)
