Subject:Re: Speakeasy gain question

Regarding clean sound, I run a VOCE V3 into the Speakeasy Classic Stereo
rack and into a Rotosphere (maximizing ROI for me, OUCH) and after fiddling
with the unit hook ups to drive as much line level into the Speakeasy I am
now getting the meaty punch that the rest of the band compliments me on.
They don't know the details, they just want it to sound good. It is clean
and full with a wide curving approach to distortion, that grows as you
increase to ENOUGH but doesn't break up like a solid state, OK at this
level, nudge, NOT OK AT LEVEL.
It does take some adjustment. The pre-amp works off the shelf, but like a
well built easy chair, the comfort is in the pocket that your butt makes
after sitting a few times.
If you look at the thought and research behind the Classic unit, it is meant
to emulate old technology that is not available off the shelf today. I
think it's an attempt to go back to the source of the sound that we all
look for.
I do a John Lord thing as a gag, for goofing in rehearsal, but clean is the
sound the band looks for. Phish covers, String Cheese covers, Miles and
Brubeck. Not screaming blues or Deep Purple. So if it wasn't clean I'd hear
about it.
