Subject:Speakeasy gain question

I have been reading all the postings by happy users and one issue has
been bugging me. I currently use an ART Dual Tube MP between an
Electro and a KBR3d. The Electro has an anemic output by itself so
the ART helps to "tubeify" and boost my signal substantially into
the Kbr3d. This chain gives me all the gain I need into my amp. I've
read though that many of you are adding pre-pres in front of your
Speakeasy. Why in world should this be necessary?
I can only surmise that even with a Speakeasy in the chain you guys
aren't getting enuf gain into your final amplification.

This seems goofy. I've been interested in maybe trying one out but
can't see buying a preamp and not having it do what should be it's
fundamental job, boosting a signal. In theory chaining together all
this stuff can not be optimum for the end result. The simplest signal
path should always sound the best.

I want the benefits of a tube pre. But I'll darned if I can
understand why I should need two of them.
