Subject:RE: BX3-Leslie preamp gain
Hi Chuck,
I actually just replied to your email, then downloaded your post to the
CloneWheel group - sorry about the 25 hour response time - I usually reply
within 24 hours. :)
We don't post our phone number on the site because we are a very small
company and I try to deal with as many questions as possible by email so the
guys at the shop can get some work done. I sent you our phone number in my
email.
Thanks,
Andy

Subject: [CWSG] BX3-Leslie preamp gain
I've been reading all of the posts regarding the Speakeasy preamp vs.
other preamps and last night I decided to try something in an attempt
to add some gain to my setup.
I recently bought a BX3 and was a little disappointed in it's output.
I have a Trek II preamp that I also used with my VK7 when I couldn't
get a crew to load and unload the B3.
The VK7 through the Trek II was also a little wimpy.
The same Leslie 147 that I used with my B3 that screams, just doesn't
quite get there with the BX3 or the VK7.
I have to admit that I was more than interested in the Speakeasy
pedal but reluctant to sell my Trek II for less than 300.00 and then
turn around and spend more than that on a pedal that only has output
for one Leslie.
So-back to the test:
I ran the organ into my mixer then into the Trek II. I got the thing
to scream like a banshee. I'll probably blow a driver but what the
heck-it's time to oil the motor anyway.
Then I took it one step further and got on-line with a company called
Presonus. They sell a little tube preamp with XLRs and 1/4 "" jacks
for under 200.00. More like 135.00 at the local Guitar Wal Mart.
I have the feeling that this might solve my problem with respect to
gain and also might warm up the BX3. I like the way the BX3 sounds
through a mixer into the Leslie so I'm hopeful that by adding a tube
pre it'll be nice and fat. The Presonus comes with 2 12AU7s and has
to ins and outs. It is recommended for keys, guitars and basses.
I'm going to pick it up tonight and I'll be happy to post the test
result after I have a chance to play with it.
This solves my problem with losing my ability to control different
Leslies with the Trek II since I use 122s and 147s. In reality, the
cost is probably a wash as I'd have to sell the Trek II for under
retail which is 300.00. And the Presonus is about 135.00. And I
wouldn't have the ability to try out the Speakeasy without first
buying it. I e-mailed Speakeasy and didn't get an answer and they
also don't have a phone number listed. Does anyone have the number?
I'm a little weird about companies that don't post their phone
numbers on their sites.
Thanks
Chuck
