Hey David...

Like I said, I can only speak from my own personal
experience. Mine is definitely an older combo,
without the polymaric (?) finish. In moving it one
weekend, it apparently took 2 nice hits while being
loaded into the can. And I do baby my gear. I'm
having a flight case built as we speak because there's
no way I trust this in the hands of an airline
handler, and when the case is done, I'll feel better
about taking this thing out.

But I went off course here: If the front of the unit
chipped that easily, my fear is the wood doesn't have
the tensile strength to put good casters on (I tend to
go overkill with these things as they get used ALL THE
TIME) and roll over small obstacles; and as careful as
we try to be, come 3am load-out, we're not as delicate
with our gear as the situation may demand.

Just my own opinion. As always...Individual results
may vary!

Happy Daze....
