Subject:Re: Speakeasy Preamp/Hamptone Pre shoot-out
Hey Bob...
In my studio, it sounded pretty good. Live? After
numerous situations utilizing the CX3, I returned it
to the store. It sounds very pretty...but in context,
has weak upper mids and highs, and tends to get lost
easily. This happened whether using the
Speakeasy/122, or the SpeakeasyMSrig, or the
Speakeasy/combo amp or just direct into the combo amp.
Nothing I could do made me happy with the CX3, so
back it went.
As always....Individual results may vary.
As long as I'm patting folks on the back, let it be
known that Bill at BB ORGAN who sold me the Hamptone
was very generous in allowing me to return the preamp
pedal, albeit with a hefty restocking charge. He
didn't have to take it back at all, as technically, it
wasn't broken. He was a gentleman, and kindly
accepted the return of the preamp. Businesses tend to
forget that it's individuals who are their customers,
not some faceless entities. I would definitely work
with Bill in the future if the occasion presented
itself. He has a great website too!
