Subject:RE: Kurweil "KB3" Mode...
Poor Deke....you are truly delusional!!!!
Well, maybe not with the Electro (the only thing I've
seen that comes close to being Playable, Portable (as
all get-out) and Palatable (not hard to listen to).
Chopping an M3? Unless you do this yourself (and
frankly the man hours entailed would prohibit most
from the job anyway) I don't see how you're going to
save money. Even chopped, I don't see how you'll lose
the term "bulky".
I can tell you after having talked to numerous techs
that the Kurzweil thing is not to be abused. They're
not the most (love this term:it's so appropriate I'm
stealing it!) ROBUST keyboards on the market.
Having just endured an XB2 at a rehearsal hall,
YECCHH! Sounded bad, played worse.
If realism isn't a necessity, just save yourself grief
and get a used XM1 module (Dave might still have his)
or an old Oberheim OB3. They got warble! You could
probably find a cheap Viscount module somewhere too.
While I wish things were smaller and lighter, I must
be handicapped: if it doesn't sound good to me, I'd
just as soon watch TV. I prefer to carry bigger
stuff, or less stuff (but make the piece or two I
bring count) than not be inspired. True, I'm only 40,
so my back may decide otherwise eventually...but
that's what the gym is for!
