When it's used: two 100W channels, one static (the CP-70B), one rotary
(the BX-3). [Normally (for small gigs), the BX-3 will go into the
CLS-22, then the whole rig goes into the Behringer mixer and then into
the little Sharma combo, which is remarkably nice-sounding.]
From what testing I've done, both the CLS-22 and the Sharma 3200 are a
massive improvement over the BX-3's built in Leslie (which is just
about useable on chorale, and a demented warble on tremelo that sounds
like a badly set up flanger or two). The CLS-22 is more like what I
expect a Leslie to sound like: the Sharma doesn't, to me, seem to have
as intense an effect, though I wonder if that's partly govered by
distance from it: I wonder if it would sound better close miked?
Had our first rehearsal on Monday with the BX-3 as opposed to
(*horror*) organ patches off the XP-80. Met with universal approval,
even from Anne ("Do I *really* need another keyboard? - it's HUGE!").
Comfortingly fat and 'chewy' Hammond noises - just what the doctor
ordered. Still wondering how much improvement a real valve preamp will
make over the BX-3's built in overdrive.
