Tony,

From what I've heard, the new Motion Sound gear has a "polymaric"
finish, which I believe is the same stuff used for spray-on truck bed
liners. I have not seen it in person on the MS gear, but I'm
envisioned a slightly rubberized texture, like spray on rubber tolex
kind of stuff.

John F will need to tell you if you can retrofit your older MS gear.
One idea is to go ahead and buy the new stuff and sell your old stuff
while there is a good used market for the used MS gear. It may be an
incremental investment to get the heftier finish.
