Subject:Motion Sound Issues
Chazz,
I agree that the new "polymaric" truck bed finish being used on new
Motion Sound gear is superior to the painted versions. I have owned
4 different Motion Sound products (Pro3T, 2 KT80s, KBR-M) and
whenever they get nicks, I just use a Sharpie to touch them up. Good
as new.
As for your other issues with the plastic corners and cabinet
hardware...my recommendation is that you purchase a padded cover for
your amp and you will be fine. This construction (plastic corners)
is used by a number of higher end amp producers, such as Barbetta, GK
and Hartke). Maybe the corners get sharp or eventually break, but a
little care and protection makes it a moot point. I bounced my KBR-M
around the nation in nothing but a Tuki cover and it looked brand new
after 2.5 years of heavy use. My KT-80 is much the same. It travels
in a Tuki cover and I have no problems. These amps seem to be built
quite ruggedly as I have never had any problems with them failing me
on the gig.
Most all gear has its pros and cons in terms of construction, fit and
finish, materials, etc. in relation to price point. Example: The
Korg CX-3 is built about 1/3 as robustly as the Hammond XK2, yet it
sells for somewhere around $500 more than the XK2. Sure, it has some
more features and a better out-of-the-box sound, but what's up with
the particle board and delicate keys??? If you carry your organ in a
flight case, the roadworthiness is a secondary issue. Same is true
for amps. Even a vintage Leslie is built like a tank, but will
certainly show wear VERY QUICKLY on the road without the proper
protection of a road case or Tuki cover at minimum.
In my opinion, the Motion Sound products are well made and represent
a decent value given their features. Get a cover for it and I think
your issues will be fewer.
Good luck,
Eric
