Subject:R: R: Slightly OT: MIDI problem...
The only thing I know is that the soundcard is MPU-401 compatible which is important for my sysex programs (for dx7-m1-d50-d70-etc) and I think it has sound canvas sounds...
The midi files can be heard but I can see any midi activity with midi-ox...

Roger;
I was looking back over the messages we have exchanged, your original
description of your problem reminded of the problem I had with my wife's
computer, which also had built-in sound on the MB. Never could get it to
work--the OS never recognized that the computer had sound capabilities,
even with the drivers installed and "working."--so I ended up disabling it
and installing a sound card. Problem solved.
So the question I have is: you said you couldn't install your old sound
card in the P1800 computer--was the card an ISA card or PCI? If it was
ISA, then my guess is that it was a 16-bit card anyway. Come to think of
it, the built-in sound on the MB is probably 16-bit as well. You might
want to look into a newer and more capable sound card. Like a
Soundblaster Live! or somthing like it, with 24 or 32-bit sound.
Just a thought....
