Subject:R: Slightly OT: MIDI problem...
Steve,
I looked in the BIOS and the midiport was disabled, I enabled it and the pc found an mpu-401 compatible driver! But the midi-keyboard (the AX-7) won't play any notes with the b4... Should I install MIDI-OX and see if there is some midi-data at all? I changed midiport generator to roland mpu on the input for the b4...
Any ideas? At least I have the driver installed...
Cheers,
Roger

Roger;
Is there some way you can tell if the computer is receiving the MIDI data? Can you play the built-in Sound Card's synthesizer from your MIDI keyboard?

1) Did you check that the keyboard was sending on the same MIDI channel that B4 is set to receive on? Should be Upper Manual = Channel 1, Lower Manual = Channel 2, Pedals = Channel 3, unless you changed B4 from the defaults
Yep!
2) Is the driver for the MIDI ports properly installed?
Ah, I think so... The computer (and B4) sees it...
3) Are you sure the keyboard's MIDI OUT is connected to the computer's MIDI IN? My MIDI adapter cable plugs into the MIDI/Joystick port and has two short cables coming out--one for MIDI IN, one for MIDI Out. The two are identical and unlabelled. I had to experiment to figure out which was which. Is yours like this?
I checked it and it right... I tried with that type of cable and with Roland's MCa-1 midi box too...
4) You said you "set the in & out ports." Did you do that in the B4 MIDI settings dialog box? If not, you need to do it there too.
Yeah I did it there too...
Good Luck;
I hope luck will go my way!
Cheers,
Roger

Hey guys!
I've just bought a new pc (XP1800 with 512MB Ram) but can't fisically install my old sound cards... Fortunately the main board has an internal soundcard (apparently with Roland Sound Canvas sounds!!!)
My main problem is that the midi port won't work with a keyboard so no B4!
I've already set the input and output ports but it won't go...
I'm using Win98 like on the old PC...
What can I do?
Cheers,
Roger
