Subject:Digging the CX3 EX Mode
I'm toying with my CX3 and Speakeasy preamp tonight more than I have
in a LONG time. This is my first gig-free weekend in ages. The kids
are hosting a slumber party upstairs, mom's out drinking and I'm in
my music room with some Heineken and my rig, having a grand old time.
I have not really played around with EX mode very much. I know it's
there, but always forget to deploy it on gigs. Tonight I have been
tweaking some of the settings and playing around with the
drawbars...I think I'm addicted.
As evidenced by my Yahoo user ID, my favorite regular drawbar setting
is 888000008. Well, in EX mode, you get an extra 4 drawbars. So my
favorite now is 8880000000008. What's cool is that the percussion
lies in the last 5 drawbars and so you can pull those out and there
is no cancellation of the uppermost drawbar as when you are in
regular 9 drawbar-land. I think I might like EX mode more than
having 2 regular sets of drawbars.
I've also been playing with the mic distance and spread controls
quite a bit and I did not realize how much influence they have over
the final sound. I'm running into my rack mount Speakeasy preamp
with it set to volume on 2 o'clock, treble at 3:00 and bass at 4:00.
Sounds amazing!!!
Back to the rig.

Eric
