Subject:Abusing the moderator; Was...Re: Archives and Labels
Bruce, your points are well taken. Even though we've
never met, I already consider Eric a friend, and a
great correspondent. If in my hasty reply I managed
to offend anyone, especially Eric, my sincerest
apologies. I can only imagine how tough the gig is to
moderate a group like this. And of course the very
nature of this medium can exaggerate intentions
sometimes and even add some hues to the vibe of an
email that weren't intended by the "artist."
I think contributors taking a few seconds to make sure
their subject headings are correct will help those who
arent necessarily interested in a particular topic
weed through them.
I can speak from experience: Out here in the Third
World (and believe me, where I am is indeed the Third
World...presently, I'm six degrees from the equator)
computer access is not necessarily a daily event, and
when you can get it, it's like $4 an hour. Most of
these cafes have the worst connections imagineable.
Most of the so-called DSLs are slower than the pokiest
dial-up connection any of us have EVER experienced.
So when I miss a few days and find like 242 emails
sitting there (most from the CWSG, which is cool!),
knowing that I am paying for my time here necessitates
me just browsing the "froms" and "subjects" to find
out which I can afford to answer. And even though I
really don't need to know more about keyboard stands,
I can't STOP myself from looking at the posts anyway.
I still truly believe a community with noise is much
more valuable to a stricter and less involved
community. It's better for all of us in the long and
short runs. So, everyone just take a little time to
make sure subjects are groovy and that we're not just
totally making noise will make Eric's life a lot more
hassle-free, and help everyone else find the info
they're looking for.
Eric....again, if I was a little careless in that
posting, my apologies.
2 more weeks of this tour, and then I'll have some (at
least what I think are) interesting critiques of the
Nord Electro. Right now, it's 95degrees, humid as
hell. I have a nice bout of pharyngitis (just
confirmed by the base doc) courtesy of some truly
rancid hotel (and I use that term quite generously
thank you) air conditioning. Rain showers are often
and intense (winter season here), and come out of
nowhere with no warning. Last night, we arrived in
Chuuk, Micronesia, and we put on a concert at the
Chuuk Intl Airport. Today's show at a ball field has
been postponed to tomorrow at the airport because the
local police have decided it's too unsafe. Apparently
the local kids here get very drunk and very high on
beetlenut (a hideous concoction consisting of the
local beetlenut..available on most trees...broken in
half and coated with lime...not the fruit, the white
powder used by construction crews and serial
killers...then wrapped in a leaf which is then chewed
on and spit like "dip" for 30 minutes or so) and then
have made sport of slingshots and metal daggers
fashioned out of old pop cans; the local police feel
its unsafe for them and us to be out in a park after
dark. So I have a few hours to kill, and thus here I
am.
Anyway...enough prattle from me. Hope everyone is
well, and I'll talk soon.
tony
PS...(eric, contact me offline and let me know how
your experience has been so far...please?)
