Yeah, I remember when Barrel came out and I was disappointed too. LM
just needed a changed in music for him, and I guess Barrel was the
answer.

LM did not show late for the concert when saw him in Hollywood, Florida.
He was the headliner and Jo Jo Gunne was the support.

I'm coming late into this thread, but with all the extolling of LM's
abilities I have to add a little counterpoint with my own anecdote, even
if
it does date me....I was in high school, and I already owned the first 3
LM
albums (the 3rd being the self-titled studio album with him and
Frosty)...and
"Barrel", the 4th, had just been released...and I had tix to see him at
C.W.
Post College (Long Island, NY)....I was pumped! McKendree Spring opened
for
him. And then we waited. And waited. And waited some more. He showed up
over
an hour late, which I later learned wasn't unusual for him. And he was
very
obviously wasted when he did show up. And there was NO ORGAN. WTF?
Right, no
organ at all, just piano. Him and Frosty on stage. And a bass player
*behind
a screen* on the stage, as if nobody would notice. Of course we all
noticed.
Played sloppy, sang sloppy, and I went home a disappointed young man.
As it
turned out his best recordings were already behind him at that point,
even
though his biggest hit (Do You Know What I Mean) was yet to come.
