Hey all....the only thing that matters is how your
instrument makes you feel, or more precisely, how it
makes you feel like playing. None of us can afford to
open a musuem, although from the looks of some of our
pics, we've made gallant attempts. If you liked your
CX3 enough to purchase it, and you've enjoyed playing
it for however long you've had it, then you've got a
winner! I know I'm in the minority, but I actually
REALLY loved my XK2, although it HAD to be through a
leslie. When I took the CX3 out, it honestly didn't
work for ME. And man, I totally WIGGED when I
realized I'd jumped the gun and sold my XK2 before
being satisfied with its replacement, and that hasn't
happened to me since high school (learn a lesson once
the hard way, and it's hard to forget it, although it
can still happen). And when I got another XK2, I was
instantly back in the driver's seat where I felt
comfortable. It just so happened that in my NEED for
something (not just lust here actually, there were
parameters that needed to be met) I found the Electro
totally answered that need. The fact that in what
would normally constitute my regular usage the Electro
far surpassed the XK2 only made it that much easier
for me to once again sell the XK2 (and this time I
made SURE!).

The CX3 has many fine points, sound preferences aside:
for tweakers, it's a paradise. For familiarity, there
is no better clone out there; what other keyboard has
everything where it should be if it were a real
Hammond? That's totally one of the most amazing
things about it. 2 sets of drawbars? WAY COOL! The
EX mode....think of it as Uli Roth using a 2 octave
guitar: it's not the TRADITIONAL instrument, but so
what? Does it inspire you to play things, or
influence you in a positive way to react to the sound?
That's ALL that counts.

I've been a gearaholic for as long as I can remember.
But contrary to my psychotic Hammond-clone-itis the
last month here, I have actually been in recovery from
that for awhile. I've sold most of my equipment that
didn't really speak to me in a way that made me want
to play. I don't keep gear just cuz it does cool
things or makes cool sounds: if it doesn't make me
play, or make me wanna play, it can go. My synth
collection has dwindled for that very reason. The
only reason I kept 2 chopped Hammonds is that one is
for my personal use at home and for groovy local gigs;
the other one actually earns me money as a rental (and
during the non-rental season sits in a recording
studio where it is at least getting used...I think we
do more damage to them letting them sit idle than
firing them up every day). As for my clones...the
Electro is my organ du jour, and my V5 is my backup.

As musicians....scratch that....as MEN, we are
HUNTERS! And that primal urge to find and kill has
been corrupted by civilization. Now we are forced to
hunt inanimate objects, which of course we can't kill.
So we drive them (dude, nice Mustang-that a '67?), we
fish in em (got another beer?), we watch 'em (wow,
that a 55" or a 57" screen?) we play em (yep, she's a
'64, original keybed on that one too! aint she a
beaut?) and we're always on the lookout for the next
kill.

If you've got a nice trophy already (CX3 2.0, XK2, XB5
-hi Steve!- Electro), instead of hunting another buck,
hunt for some new licks! Those are the real trophies,
the add-ons to our vocabulary.

I'm actually looking forward to finishing school next
week before I leave; I've already packed up a couple
jazz books to work on while I'm away!

Shhhhhh....you'll scare em away.....
tony
