Subject:Re: CX-3 Key Problem

Very interesting about the counterweight on your CX3!!!! During a live performance I couldn't press the F# on one of my keys, it wouldn't produce any sound at all. The next day after unloading my equipment and during the time I was removing my CX3 from it's case, I heard something "rolling" around inside it. After removing the cover I also found a round metal object with plastic around it. It appeared to have broken off of something. I'm still playing the CX3, I wasn't aware what the piece was but now I'm assuming it's the counterweight. I haven't attempted any repairs and I'm not sure what to do at this point. Because my CX3 is my primary instrument in my group, I'm becoming leary of this happening again with worse results during a performance. I've "babied" this keyboard from the first day I bought it. Any suggestions? Thanks.

to generate a tone, but "clacked" when pressed. When lifting the CX-3
into its case after practice a heard and felt something slide around
inside. This is the version 1 CX-3 with the small lip on the keys. I
don't feel I abused the keyboard in any way that night (no heavy palm
swipes, etc).

Well, I decided to open 'er up and see if I could fix it myself (no
guts, no glory), since I needed the board in a few days. Sure enough
I found *two* broken-off counterweights inside (at least I assume
that's what they are). After removing some of the guts I was able to
remove the keyboard and epoxy them back together (there's a plastic
shell encasing the weight). I also found small cracks in the plastic
shells of two other counterweights, but they seemed OK so I didn't do
anything about them.

Everything is back together and working, but time will tell if the
epoxy job lasts.

Just a warning to other CX-3 owners.
