Subject:CX-3 Key Problem
During band practice the other night one of my CX-3's black keys
began to feel like it would hit its stop when played -- it continued
to generate a tone, but "clacked" when pressed. When lifting the CX-3
into its case after practice a heard and felt something slide around
inside. This is the version 1 CX-3 with the small lip on the keys. I
don't feel I abused the keyboard in any way that night (no heavy palm
swipes, etc).
Well, I decided to open 'er up and see if I could fix it myself (no
guts, no glory), since I needed the board in a few days. Sure enough
I found *two* broken-off counterweights inside (at least I assume
that's what they are). After removing some of the guts I was able to
remove the keyboard and epoxy them back together (there's a plastic
shell encasing the weight). I also found small cracks in the plastic
shells of two other counterweights, but they seemed OK so I didn't do
anything about them.
Everything is back together and working, but time will tell if the
epoxy job lasts.
Just a warning to other CX-3 owners.
