I sent this info to a couple of people, but it's worth repeating here. My apologies to anyone who gets this multiple times.

"Klez" is actually a series of 4-5 variations of a rather malicious worm virus. Besides the typical destroying files, etc., the new twist that some of the variants do is "email spoofing," which takes a random email address from the infected computer's address book and uses it as the From: address. This makes it very hard to warn the infected party; there's no guarantee that his/her email address is even in the note. I've already received several "better check your PC" emails from well-meaning friends, even though my PCs are all clean. Guess, what? You Mac, UNIX, and mainframe folks aren't immune from this aspect: You may have to deal with the warning messages, even though you might not actually get the virus!

My recommendation to all is: Get an anti-virus program, set it up for automatic detection, and keep it updated. I download the latest files from Symantec every two days, and I've just changed to every day. Also, even if your Windows start bar is cluttered, resist the temptation to remove the AV icon from the tray -- it will give you a quick indication if something turns off your AV protection.
