Subject:Re: Real vs. Simulation

I have an Electro 73 and a VK7, and I've used a CX3 quite a bit. All three have great Leslie simulators. The Electro in stereo sounds very much like a big Leslie sitting in the room - you can hear the wooden cabinet and the subtleties of the moving horn and rotor. It is almost a delicate, acoustic sort of sound. The VK7 sounds very much like a big Leslie with mics right up next to the horn and rotor. It is a very 'in your face', aggressive sound. For live use in a loud rock band, I use the VK7 through a big 200 watt rms Fender keyboard amp. It is massive sounding (and I play with some very loud guitar players with Twins and stuff). The CX3 seems to fit someplace in-between. By the way, I use the VK7 live in mono, but I never use the 'mono' output; I use the other one. The mono output blends both sides of the stereo sound giving the effect of the Leslie going twice as fast (yuck). Using the other outputs gives the sound of one bass and one treble mic - nice and close...whoosh...

Subject: [CWSG] Real vs. Simulation

Ok, here's my delema. Due to a bad back, I can no longer lug my
Motion Sound KBR-3D around. Besides other keyboards, I use an
Oberheim B3/2 organ with The KBR. I plan to purchase a Barbetta (sona
41) for the keyboards. Does the VK-8, XK-2, CX-3, etc have good
leslie simulation? Do you need to listen to simulation in stereo(two
on stage amps)for best results or is mono ok? Which do you think is
best, sell the Oberheim with the KBR and purchase one of the newer
clones (leaning toward the VK-8) thus only needing one (or two)
lighter weight amps or keep the Oberheim and purchase a Pro-3T to
place on top of the Barbetta? I live in a rural area and would have
to drive a while to see and here the various organs. Thanks to all
who respond. Your knowledge is most appreciated!!
