Subject:Questions for SRM450 and/or EON users
Friends,
With my recent discovery that the internal Leslie sim on the CX3 is
really "that good," I am looking at options for loud amplification
other than the trusty Motion Sound gear. I plan to keep my Motion
Sound, but would like a more well-rounded monitor for the other
sounds (namely EP and piano sounds).
I know a lot of folks are using the Mackie SRM450 and JBL EON
speakers as keyboard monitors. These appear to be a good solution
with volume in spades. The EON is marked down to $399 at one of the
large mail order joints and this sounds like a great deal. I just
have a couple of somewhat elementary questions because my experience
with amps has been with dedicated keyboard amps that have multiple
inputs and their own mixer, etc. I have never used a monitor amp.
- When you have multiple lines for piano, organ, synth, how do you
submix them to the Mackie or JBL? Is a separate full-blown mixer a
necessity? I'm unsure how many inputs these units support and I'm
not real keen on adding another piece of gear like a mixer into the
chain.
- How do you send your keys to the PA when using a Mackie or JBL? Do
they have an XLR out that sends it all out or is a mixer required?
- Is the EON worth it for $399 or is the additional $300 justified
for the SRM450?
Thanks for any input.
Regards,
Eric
