Subject:Re: New B3 page
What an appalling Web page!
Crap design, little or no real information and a load of drivel copy that
slags off the competition.
"Revolutionary...digital tonewheels". Err isn't this the same principle
(first in the V3?) that every other clone - except HS's - has been using for
a few years?
"recreates all of those wonderful idiosyncrasies of the Tone wheel generator
which have eluded all previous digital systems" - well, our clones may have
their limitations but it's not like we don't know about these qualities, and
it's not like Voce, Roland and Korg haven't had a pretty good go at it.
"The challenge for many years has been to recreate the look, sound and feel
of this legendary keyboard instrument." Err...has it? Anyone who wants it,
needs it and has the cash can rent or buy a real B3. And, as the healthy
market in used B3s, services and parts shows, plenty of them are. And while
we all bemoan the increasing price of B3s, they're not really very expensive
compared with other vintage instruments. Anyone know what a serious violin
or cello costs?
Anyone who wants the B3 look without the weight can buy an old case (or make
one) and install their lightweight keyboards.
I think this product is a solution in search of a problem.
I'd say its real purpose (or value) is as a positioning device for Hammond
Suzuki to help them sell more of their other models: "Yes, we are the only
people with the real, authentic B3, but if your budget's a little tight, how
about this lovely..."
Let's see if they make more than one.
They definitely need to hire a decent writer (that's what I do!).
