I know exactly what you mean.

I also desperately want to like the Electro but it just disappoints
me every time I try it in the shop. It sounds thin and synthetic and
just doesn't inspire me the way a real Rhodes does.

To add insult to injury I have had the Electro hang on me and
yesterday I noticed horrible (though faint) digital noise in the
background when playing sustained piano notes. This is simply
unnacceptable for an instrument in this price class.

And by the way I have nothing against Clavia. I love my Nord
Lead :-) I'd love some Hammond and Rhodes sounds to go with it...
