Subject:B4, R3-147

Hello,

I'm new to the list...always interested in keeping up with the latest
B3 clone technology and this has been an informative place.

For a while I've been using a Motion Sound R3-147 with some B3 samples
in my K2000 for organ sounds. At one point I had a Voce V3, but
because I couldn't get the sound I wanted form the internal Leslie
simulator or Digitech RPM-1 I ended up selling it. Afterwards I
realized how important the Leslie part was when I heard the Motion
Sound products in a music store, and so I ended up splurging for the
R3-147.

Recently I discovered the B4 VST plugin and was amazed when I first
heard it...definately the best all-digital solution I've come across.
I also thought it might remove the need for the R3-147 because of the
tube amp emulation, but tonight I did an A/B comparison...the Motion
Sound distortion was clearly more smooth and "creamy" so to speak, with
a rich grind that I couldn't get with the plug-in.

Oh well, it's a good approximation. I wanted to see if I could find a
CX-3 or Electro to see how their Leslie simulations sounded, but the
local stores didn't have them...I'd love to hear other people's
impressions of them. But it just leads me to wonder how close we'll be
able to get with digital models to that elusive tube amp sound. I
suppose it's a matter of getting those complicated equations right, and
the mathematical models are getting better all the time (I did a little
bit of research on physical modeling in grad school and I'd love to get
into it further). I suppose I'd guess they'll be able to do it
someday. :-)
