An interesting read, I wonder what Mr Hayes would make of these
thoughts on pre-amp hype? Is it all in the mind, kind of Emperor's
New Clothes syndrome, or is it in the transformer, and a Class A act?

Musical-Fidelity, a respected British Hi Fi company used to make a
little tube pre-amp to provide a buffer for the output of CD players'
audio signals before they were fed to the main amp., essentially
converting high impedance into low. It would work with the output of
any digital processor's D/A converter. It was raved about and is
still sought after, as it put body into the sound, enhancing the
highs and sweetening the mid-range and firming the bass, and it made
a mid-range player sound more like a top end player.
