Hello Rick:

Please note the title of the thread...Rock Organists. Also, remember, I was
merely stating my opinion...not the Gospel Of All Organ Players.

The players you mention, all of them, while supra-talented, few qualify as
'Rock Organists' in the literal meaning.

Winwood, Cavaliere and even Al Kooper would be more R&B style organ players.
Jerry Lee and Little Richard, both of whom I revere are not "rock
organists". (Rock pianists...yes.) Booker T. is not a 'rock organist'
either...but he's damn important to the Hammond community and a 'cool'
player to be sure. I'd also call Booker's music R&B...I could be wrong.

As usual, when one's 'personal' favorite players or composers are left out,
they are seen to be disrespected, ignored or unappreciated. Not the case
here. The Clonewheel group has mentioned many unsung heroes of the Hammond
organ. Since I'm sure you've been reading the previous posts, there has been
very little mention of Lord and Emerson. I thought I'd express my opinion
that these two gentlemen were very important to us later day Hammond
players.

As far as showmanship, I do not remember Booker T. et. al. creating a "Rock
Show" as memorable as ELP, Deep Purple or Yes. That's not to say his
concerts were boring, just not the type of thing that compares to early
'70's' Progressive Rock. (If you ever saw ELP or Purple in the 70's...they
were wicked concerts.)That was my point about creating a hip image for a
keyboard player.

If you disagree, so be it. Differences of opinion are what make this such a
valuable and interesting forum. All the artists mentioned on this forum are,
truly, unique and talented. I am contributing my opinion.
