I have to jump in now. Ron "Pig Pen" McKernan was their first
Hammond player. He was alright. More a blues singer & harmonica
player than organ player. My favorite & major influence was the
person that played for the Dead through the 80's & 90's. Brent
Mydland. Check out "Dozin' at the Nick" for some excellent music.
Other favorites are Richard Wright from Pink Floyd, Melvin Seals
from the Jerry Garcia band & Greg Allman.
