I agree with the earlier sentiments that the players that got me interested in rock were not necessarily my later favorites. Anyway, here are the ones who got me started, in rough order of importance:

Jimmy Greenspoon (Three Dog Night) -- everything off the Captured Live at the Forum album
Mark Stein (Vanilla Fudge) -- everything off the first Vanilla Fudge album
Goldy McJohn (Steppenwolf) -- Magic Carpet Ride
